Chapter 3, Part 3 "Peeing on a stick"

The next morning Vivian was anxious to find out whether she was pregnant or not. She looked down at the test she had bought. Was she really going to do this? What if it was positive? She started to shake nervously and cold sweat ran down her back. She opened the package and looked at the little white stick she was holding in her hands. "A plus means I'm pregnant." she said slowly to herself. The entire room was spinning.
As she sat down on the toilet she felt the need to pee. "No...No, No, No!" she said desperately while peeing on the white little stick. This was the moment, the moment that could either change her life or leave an empty space in her heart. She had laid awake the entire night before thinking of what would happen if she really was pregnant. Would Elliot support her? She had thought about what she was going to tell her parents. Sure, she was their only child and a grandchild wouldn't do them any harm, but she was so young and her income wasn't too reliable after all.
The test showed a tiny, almost invisible plus sign. Vivian began to shake again. "A person growing inside of me?" she thought to herself. She didn't really know how to tell people, sure, she had gone through a plan in her head several times, but now it was really happening. Vivian picked up the phone and dialed Imogen's number. "Hey Vivian, how are you?" Imogen asked. Vivian didn't know what to say. A moment of silence occurred, followed by a repeat of the question, this time in a worried tone of voice. "I'm pregnant, plus sign, oh my gosh!" Vivian replied so quickly Imogen had a hard time understanding what she was saying at first. "Congratulations, darling." Imogen said. "No, what? How am I going to tell people?" Vivian said angrily. After talking on the phone for over an hour Vivian decided it was time to call Elliot.
"Hi, this is Elliot, who's calling?" Elliot's voice sounded from the phone. Vivian put the phone to her ear and said: "Hi Elliot, it's Vivian..." There was a moment of painful silence before Elliot spoke again. "Did you take the test?" he asked firmly. Vivian nodded, realizing he couldn't see her she replied: "Yes, can we meet up?" She was sure Elliot understood she was pregnant, but he didn't say anything. "Tonight, after work. The little park with the yellow house. Ok?" he asked with a kind and calm voice.
A couple of hours later Vivian sat in the car on her way to the place where they were to meet. She had no idea what she could expect from Elliot at this point. Sure, she knew he wasn't ready for a baby, but he would step up to the plate, wouldn't he?
